Sleigh Bells slays at the Warfield

I'm back with a concert review, just as I promised!! Yay! April 5th I had the great pleasure of attending Sleigh Bells' Reign Of Terror tour as they passed through San Francisco. It was, quite simply, amazing! The indie pop duo hailing from Brooklyn rocked the show with their headbang-worthy drums and bass and killer hooks. Alexis Krauss, lead singer, stepped (well, more like sashayed) onto stage looking like a noise-pop goddess decked in a studded leather jacket, brightly colored tank top, super cute camo cut-off shorts, and her signature white Keds. She proceeded to burst into the duo's new track "Demons" which features an uber-catchy chorus and a powerful guitar piece to back it up. One thing that us really unique to Sleigh Bells is their use of pulsing, hardcore-cheerleader-rock type music mixed with Krauss' dreamy, trancelike vocals. Its an interesting combination I have yet to see replicated in any other noise pop group. Trust me on this one - Sleigh Bells is a band you will definitely want to have on your iPod. The duo kept the crowd rocking long into the night with their songs and stage charisma - and left me a very satisfied concert attendee. So if Sleigh Bells happens into a concert hall near you, I suggest you snag a couple tickets; I promise it will be worth the money.

PS,
I'm so sorry for the lateness of this post - I've been neglecting my blogger duties. I'll try to stay ontop of this site more!

Wickedly Wacky Beauty Find - "a kiss to leave them gasping"

Oh internet, how I love you. Today while browsing the world wide web I happened to stumble upon a product that I find both really weird an totally cool - a peach scented lip balm infused with morphine, a chemical derived from opium that helps relieve pain (and when applied to the skin, has a numbing affect). This interesting product was inspired my the Kill Hannah song Lips Like Morphine, which describes a girl that has a kiss that numbs & knocks the singer out, similar to the affect of having taken a dose of the drug. I would recommend the song, which in itself is alright, but the lead singer sounds like he has a bad case of cottonmouth. Not Bueno. Anyways, how cool would it be to have this lip balm handy on a first date? Its sure to give you that extra confidence boost that comes from having a proverbial ace your sleeve. This power-packed lip balm is available online through Morphine Lips's website (www.morphinelips.com) and in select Urban Outfitters across the states. What do you think - cool or crazy?

A Few Of My Favorite Things (Deja Vu)

Good evening! I've been super busy with schoolwork and I apologize for not updating my blog much, but I've gotta get my grades up or my parents will kill me. :D

Right about this time of year is when I get what I call summer-sick, where I basically listen to beachy songs and become very nostalgic of past summer breaks (I also begin building my ultimate feelgood summer playlist, but that's a post unto itself). So this night I though I would put up another post about my favorite fashion-y things, however this post is a bit different. Instead of having trends that I've noticed and fell in love with, I'm going to post about a few key articles  of clothing that I want to (or am going to) add to my wardrobe before summer comes. So without further ado, my summer wardrobe plan!

First up: a denim American flag vest. I'm not sure why I love these so much - its just for some reason they seem so edgy and patriotic at the same time (especially when worn right). I've found a couple really good tutorials on the internet for painting denim jackets/ vests, so I figure I'll jun down to my local thrift store, pick up a beat up denim jacket and paint away! Lets hope it all goes well...

Second: Fringe Tees and shawls. I gotta say, I am absolutely crazy about fringe right now. I catches movement and breezes so nicely its just amazing; plus, it makes anyone look twice as good when they're dancing (which is a plus when you dance as badly as I do). I've already made a fringed vest out of a free shirt that came in the mail - pics later. Long story short, i'm going to be taking my scissors to a lot of tees in my wardrobe this season.
Ps, The picture on the right is the Boss Silk Kimono from Nasty Gal clothing - a whopping $148 purchase, which is out of my price range, but definitely something I would be willing to splurge on if I had the money. For now I guess I'll just search the consignment stores and hope for the best!

Last: Navajo print. I can usually get away with DIY projects for much of what I want, but this is definitely going to be something i'm going to have to invest in. Navajo print is very summery to me - something about the patterns just hooks me and wont let me go. To me it really conveys the heat of the desert, and its' refreshingly warm and muted colors are nice in a season where magazines and fashion sites really push bright, saturated colors. I can't wait to go shopping for some nice statement pieces like this.

Well, i'm pretty tired now, so i'm going to put the computer down now and chill to some Red Hot Chili Peppers before I go to sleep. Hope you enjoyed the read  - now get some sleep!

Icy Slips and Chapped Lips

Hello people! I just got back from Hartland Winter Camp with my church youth group (sorry for the lapse in posts - there are no electronics aloud up there) and boy let me tell you was it cold! I packed all my long sleeved shirts and half my entire jean collection and still just barley had enough dry clothes to last me the trip. I did sooo many things, including climbing a vertical ropes course that reached the top of these Giant Sequoias and had some awesome group bonding time at an obstacle course. Well i've gotta run now, but I'll be back with another post soon.

Double-Whammy Post

Today I have a special for you - a fashion AND music post wrapped into one! Yippie! The object of today's two-in-one blog post is M.I.A and her new single, "Bad Girls". I'am absolutely in love with the Middle Eastern inspired beat and melody. Its so refreshing to hear something unique and catchy instead of something auto-tuned to imperfection. What I also love, maybe even more than the song, is the video. It features some awesome Hijab wearing, machine gun-toting backup dancers in mismatched silk prints, which I just can't get enough of! M.I.A's fashion is as crazy-cool as ever, which is no big surprise. I love how M.I.A always looks like she just rolled out of bed, didn't do her hair, and threw on everything in her closet. Her style is so wild and eccentric that it just becomes majorly on-point and trendy. I don't know how she does it (but boy do I wish I did)! I've included a gallery below of some screenshots from her video.

Now, go watch the video! :D

Today's Style: Casual Cupid

Morning' people! Today is going to be very hectic for me because I am hosting a (pre) Valentines Day Forever Alone party. I still have allot of things to set up, plus I need to go get food. Thank goodness I picked out my outfit last night, or else I would have had to waste about and hour and a half trying to decide on what to wear. I'm going for what I call the Casual Cupid look - A red and black striped H&M dress with a black belt and some red hoop earrings. I'm not going to be able to do any fabulous makeup looks like I normally do for parties because I left half of my best makeup at my dad's house. Sometimes I really hate being so forgetful. Anyways, here's some pics of what I'm going to wear, as well as a list of some songs that are on my Lonley Hearts Club playlist :D

H&M Black Metallic Red Striped Knit Dress SZ 36 6

Forget You - Cee-Lo Green
Dancing With Myself- Billy Idol
Skaterboy - Avril Lavigne
Dirty Little Secret -  All American Rejects
Sexyback -Justin Timberlake
Why Don't You Do Right - Amy Irving & Charles Fleischer
Hot Mess - Cobra Starship
Love Addict - Family Force 5
I Hate Everything About You - Three Days Grace
The Drug In Me Is You - Falling In Reverse
Activate My Heart - Natalia Kills
You've Got A Friend In Me - Randy Newman

Yes, I have the infamous Toy Story song thrown in there - just so that everyone
can remember (at least for a moment) that they are not entirely Forever Alone. :)
